Moving Out

This information is provided for your consideration; remember to always consult with your healthcare team.

For most young people, moving out means that you will be taking on full responsibility for your cystic fibrosis treatment and care once and for all. This can be challenging, especially with all the other concerns associated with becoming fully emancipated from your parents. You may need to notify your new housing department in order to make the appropriate accommodations. It may also mean a change in your care center and having to become familiar with an entirely new treatment team.

If moving to student housing on a college or university campus, you may wish to request some accommodations that will make it easier for you to continue treating your cystic fibrosis and make sure you are comfortable in your new residence. You may wish to request a single dorm room with no roommates and possibly a private bathroom. Environmental considerations such as the availability of air conditioning may also be an issue. Notify the university housing department that you have CF so they can make proper accommodations for your disease.
