Understanding Cystic Fibrosis
Pulmozyme Indication
Daily administration of Pulmozyme in conjunction with standard therapies is indicated in the management of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients to improve pulmonary function. In patients with a forced vital capacity (FVC) ≥40% of predicted, daily administration of Pulmozyme has also been shown to reduce the risk of respiratory tract infections requiring parenteral antibiotics. Safety and efficacy of daily administration have not been demonstrated in patients for longer than twelve months.
Important Safety Information
The most common side effects patients with cystic fibrosis who are taking Pulmozyme may experience are changes in or loss of their voice, throat discomfort, chest pain, red watery eyes, rash, dizziness, fever, or runny nose when Pulmozyme is first taken. These side effects are usually mild and short-lived.
Pediatric Use
There is a limited amount of information available concerning the usage of Pulmozyme in patients who are younger than 5 years. The decision to use Pulmozyme in these patients is made after considering the potential for a benefit in lung function or in decreasing the risk of respiratory tract exacerbations (RTEs).
Cystic Fibrosis Lung Disease
You fight it every day… be sure to fight it in every way
If you or someone you love is living with cystic fibrosis (CF), you know that it's a lifelong disease. You also know that CF needs ongoing care. And although the CF care plan for you or your child may change over time, one thing remains constant—your efforts to stay committed to CF care. Every day is important to maintaining overall health and helping you or your child feel well.
But did you know that feeling well is only part of the story? That's because CF can cause lung damage, even in patients without symptoms or lung function loss. The good news is that being proactive with treatment can help delay lung disease progression for as long as possible. A preventive treatment plan that includes Pulmozyme along with other standard treatments can delay lung function decline and other serious lung problems. Read on to learn why every day matters when it comes to fighting CF lung disease, and how Pulmozyme may be an important part of a preventive treatment plan.
