Why is Pulmozyme important?

Pulmozyme may be an essential partner in your fight against cystic fibrosis.

In cystic fibrosis, your lungs produce extra-thick, sticky mucus. In laboratory studies, Pulmozyme made this mucus thinner and looser.

In a study of cystic fibrosis patients 5 years and older with forced vital capacity (FVC) greater than or equal to 40%:
Patients taking Pulmozyme daily showed fewer lung infections requiring IV antibiotics and an improvement in lung function compared with those not taking Pulmozyme.

Individual results from Pulmozyme may vary.

How Pulmozyme was studied:

A prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled study evaluated the effects of once-daily and twice-daily administration of Pulmozyme on exacerbations of respiratory symptoms requiring IV antibiotics, and on pulmonary function.

  • The study assessed adults and children five years of age or older with cystic fibrosis who had baseline FVC greater than or equal to 40% of predicted and were receiving standard therapies for cystic fibrosis
  • A total of 968 patients were treated for 24 weeks as outpatients with placebo (325 patients), 2.5 mg of Pulmozyme once a day (322 patients), or 2.5 mg of Pulmozyme twice a day (321 patients)

What are the available doses of Pulmozyme?

Pulmozyme is FDA-approved for once- or twice-daily dosing.

Pulmozyme Once A Day

The recommended dose for most cystic fibrosis patients is 2.5 mg once daily.

PATIENTS ON PULMOZYME ONCE DAILY EXPERIENCED

27% lower risk of developing lung infections requiring IV antibiotics compared to those not taking Pulmozyme.

Patients showed a 5.8% improvement in lung function over 6 months compared to the start of treatment.

Those on Pulmozyme once daily showed a 7.9% improvement in lung function within 8 days of the start of treatment.

Pulmozyme Twice A Day

Some patients may benefit from twice-daily dosing.

PATIENTS ON TWICE-DAILY DOSING EXPERIENCED

29% lower risk of developing lung infections requiring IV antibiotics compared to those not taking Pulmozyme.

Patients showed an average of 5.6% improvement in lung function over 6 months compared to the start of treatment.

Those on Pulmozyme twice daily showed an average of 9% improvement in lung function within 8 days of the start of treatment.

Cystic fibrosis patients over 21 may benefit from twice-daily dosing to reduce the risk of lung infections requiring IV antibiotics. Ask your doctor if twice daily is right for you.

PULMOZYME IS A STANDARD PART OF CYSTIC FIBROSIS CARE.
MORE THAN 80% OF PATIENTS WITH CYSTIC FIBROSIS ARE PRESCRIBED PULMOZYME EACH YEAR.
